Seek the Truth
What is God Really Like?
A deep relationship with God is everyone's greatest need. The more you learn about who God is and what He is like, the more you can trust Him.
Ludwig Feuerbach published The Essence of Christianity in 1841. This is not my book recommendation. I had to read it in seminary. In it, Feuerbach argues, “Human beings must have created religion in an attempt to assert themselves against their natural limitations.” He saw religion as the denial of dependence and the projection of a wish.
Religion, Feuerbach believed, is an objectification of human wishing about limitless existence. He had a big influence on Marx and Engels. A bad influence, if I do say so. Feuerbach simply thought man made up the idea of God because without God, man would live in despair.
This is a depressing start to post, huh?! But hold on, there is good news.
Rejoice! God Has Revealed Himself.
Christians believe God reveals Himself in the world He created and the Bible.
Submit to God and be at peace with him; in this way prosperity will come to you.
This is what the Lord says: “Let not the wise boast of their wisdom or the strong boast of their strength or the rich boast of their riches, but let the one who boasts boast about this: that they have the understanding to know me, that I am the Lord, who exercises kindness, justice and righteousness on earth, for in these I delight.
The Attributes of God
A deep relationship with God is everyone's greatest need. I really like the beginning of the Preface to Arthur W. Pink's book The Attributes of God. I also had to read this book in seminary. I did not keep Feuerbach’s book but I still have the original copy of Pink’s book. And I have a few reprints of the original to give away occasionally. It is only 92 pages. But it’s 92 pages packed full of scripture.
Here are the chapter titles:
- The Solitariness of God
- The Decrees of God
- The Knowledge of God
- The Foreknowledge of God
- The Supremacy of God
- The Sovereignty of God
- The Immutability of God
- The Holiness of God
- The Power of God
- The Faithfulness of God
- The Goodness of God
- The Patience of God
- The Grace of God
- The Mercy of God
- The Love of God
- The Wrath of God
- The Contemplation of God
With flattery he will corrupt those who have violated the covenant, but the people who know their God will firmly resist him.
The More You Learn About God, the More You Can Trust Him.
The more you learn about who God is and what He is like, the more you can trust Him.
We all need strength in today’s world. Buy this book and spend each morning reading one chapter slowly. Get strong!!!

The Westminster Catechism’s first question is, “What is the chief end of man?” The answer is, “The chief end of man is to enjoy God and glorify Him forever.”
The more you know of God, the more you become the kind of human being you were created to be. The more you know who God is and deepen your relationship with Him, the more the fruit of His Spirit is made manifest in your heart and is evident in how you act.
But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, forbearance, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness and self-control. Against such things there is no law.
