Seeing God in a New Light

Gentle and Lowly by Dane Ortlund {Book Recommendation}

Pure and simply, this book will lead you deeper into the heart of God.

Gentle and Lowly

We took a survey of those who subscribe to my newsletter. To my surprise, the highest rating was on my book reviews. I read a lot! I am always engrossed in a book or even two simultaneously. So here goes my first review of 2020.

I read several books you will hear about, but this was at the top of my list. A good friend of mine gave it to me. (Thanks, Jim!) I bought a copy for my four boys, their wives, and a few others.

It is no exaggeration to say that this book was both the focus of God’s work in me over the last two months, but it also enlightened my life through seeing God in a new light. Yes, I am still learning and growing.

This book is all about illuminating one verse in the Bible:

I am gentle and lowly in heart.

Matt. 11:29 ESV

Book Recommendation: Gentle and Lowly by Dane Ortlund

Make no mistakes. Dane Ortlund's book, 'Gentle and Lowly; The Heart of Christ for Sinners and Sufferers,' is not about understanding how Christ looks at sinners and sufferers.

I am the sinner and sufferer—we all are. If you don’t put yourself in that category, maybe this book is not for you. Pure and simple, this book will lead you deeper into the heart of God. It sure did that for me!

Each of the 23 chapters is short, very well written, and I was absorbed in each one every morning. The best part for me was the Epilogue. I don’t think I have ever said that about any book I have read. The Epilogue focuses on HOW to apply what I just finished reading.
